Legal & Compliance Manager (f/m/x) - Germany

Job description

ChartMogul is analytics software for building a better subscription business. Whether a SaaS product or mobile meditation app — subscription businesses are highly measurable and contain a wealth of valuable data. We're also an international company with offices in Berlin, Toronto and Seoul, an many more colleagues remote.

We're now looking for someone who can lead our compliance efforts that come with being an international analytics company. This includes staying on top of current and upcoming legal requirements, understanding how they impact ChartMogul, and defining and executing the best way to handle them. Compliance is a trade-off between minimizing legal exposure and providing flexibility for the business to serve our customers in the best possible way. You will help us navigate that trade-off.

You don't need to be a lawyer, but you need to be comfortable reading legal texts and speaking to lawyers and public authorities. This is a hands-on role in the sense that you will own, review and regularly update our legal documents, including internal documentation related to GDPR.

Our main operating subsidiary is based in Berlin, Germany, so you need to be most familiar with German law, but also feel comfortable dealing with English and Canadian common law.

What you'll do:

  • Regularly review & update our customer facing legal documents (Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Data Processing Agreement, etc.)
  • Make sure we keep our statutory registers up to date and meet filing deadlines for all our legal entities
  • Identify and summarize legal risks, and develop solutions to address them
  • Coordinate with external lawyers, authorities, accountants as required
  • Handle the process for adding new vendors to our tech stack (review ToS & DPAs, update processing register, etc.)
  • Address customer questions about compliance, data subject requests, vendor evaluation forms, and others
  • Stay up to date with legal and regulatory changes and distribute relevant updates to your colleagues

Sounds interesting? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Analytical thinking, a systematic approach, and the ability to thoroughly understand multi-level data handling processes
  • Experience working with legal texts and lawyers
  • High-level understanding of GDPR and CCPA
  • Familiarity with the tech stack of a modern SaaS business
  • Excellent written and spoken English; German at level B2 or above
  • You feel comfortable discussing compliance topics on all levels of the organization

Nice to have:

  • Law degree from a European or North American university
  • Formal certifications in the fields of Privacy or Data Protection
